Alternatives to Truecaller
Telemarketing, silent calls, fake phone-company agents, texts with scam links: to defend themselves many people install Truecaller. But there are free-software apps that do the same job, some of them without even connecting to the internet.
They work in two different ways. The first is rules: let your contacts, the numbers you've already called or anyone calling back within a few minutes through, and block everything else. That's how Silence works, and SpamBlocker too if you leave its online features off. The second is asking an online service whether the number has been reported as spam: handy, but the caller's number ends up on that service. That's how Spam Call Blocker works, and by default it uses Truecaller too (you can turn this off in the settings). All these apps are Android-only.
